Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the first goal in Manchester United’s 2-0 win at Zorya Luhansk on Thursday; and it was the second time in the last ten days that he turned in a man of the match level performance. His contributions really do make United fans happy that the earlier far out of favor Armenian decided to keep fighting for his spot.
He’s had four starts now and he’s truly delivering in in the opportunities that he’s been given.
Mkhitaryan started slowly at United, as he was nearly invisible at first. However, he kept fighting to find his role and now he’s coming into his own. The Captain of the Armenian national team and United’s second summer transfer window addition said last week blame him, not Jose Mourinho for the slow start that he had.
“He was strong mentally and very determined to fight against his difficult adaptation,” Mourinho told reporters after United’s victory on the Ukraine permafrost, which put the Red Devils through to the knockout round.
“He is doing that in the best way — he worked really hard physically and tactically,” Mourinho continued in his description of Mkhitaryan.
“We knew the talent was there and what we were buying, but we had to improve him tactically and physically.”
“Now he is playing well in the Premier League and Europa League, and the goal means more happiness for him.”
