David de Gea wants to play for Manchester United again. This desire is expressed in the outlet AS today, on the heels of his appearance for Spain against Macedonia last night in the Euro Qualifiers.
Does this mean that De Gea will return to first team action on Saturday against arch-rival Liverpool?
De Gea is quoted as saying after the match: “I felt good. I was really longing to get back playing. I’ll keep working and let’s see if I have some luck with my club.
“Yes I’m happy. I am relaxed about things and I will go on working hard and improving, and enjoying my football.”
This is seemingly a big boost for the Red Devils. Expect United Manager Louis van Gaal to receive at least a couple questions about this topic on Friday at his pregame press conference. You can also expect his answers to be entertaining, as Van Gaal loves to openly spar with reporters.
De Gea has not featured for United since the team’s final preseason game July 29th at Soldier Field in Chicago. In the 2-0 loss to Paris Saint Germain in the International Champions Cup friendly he gave a poor performance. Many thought that he looked distracted and Van Gaal has not played De Gea since.
Sergio Romero filled in and accomplished three clean sheets in his first three games. However, he played very poorly in United’s fourth fixture, and De Gea, in theory, is still United’s #1 keeper.
