Time for your daily David de Gea update. Yesterday, brought the news of Real Madrid Florentino Perez admitting that his club will not even bother to the pursue De Gea in the January transfer window. Now today brings the news that De Gea and United are talking contract extension.
The goalkeeper’s current deal expires at the end of this current season.
The very first question Manager Louis van Gaal received at his press conference today was “did you think was it possible a couple of weeks before the deadline closed that he would be signing a new contract?”
“Yes,” Van Gaal replied
“It’s a confirmation of what I’ve always been saying to you- transfers are a process.”
“I’m very happy David de Gea stays because he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He was my best player last year, chosen not only by the fans, but by his fellow players.”
That’s quite the U-turn De Gea has made about his future in just a couple weeks. It shows a fair amount of perspective, growth, maturity and professionalism on his part. Van Gaal was asked if De Gea will play or not tomorrow. The Dutchman responded by saying we will have to wait and see.
