Time for your daily David de Gea update. What had seemed like a never ending soap opera officially reached its conclusion six days ago. As you know De Gea will stay at Manchester United, bringing closure after several months of discussion and conjecture. De Gea signed a four year contract extension that was announced on September 11th.

“AVOID DELAYS” in all capital letters reads a sign at Manchester airport. Yes, if only Real Madrid had avoided delay in their negotiation process. Yes, if the paper work hadn’t been delayed, if the whole negotiation and transfer deal hadn’t come down literally to the 11th hour on summer transfer window deadline day. What makes this photo and this caption by the ESPN reporter who Tweeted it even more deliciously ironic is that this moment seems to have come together spontaneously.
De Gea didn’t plan his juxtaposition next to his sign; it just happened.
