Time for your daily David de Gea and Sergio Ramos updates. It’s a a never ending soap opera like Arturo Vidal was last summer. Will De Gea stay at Manchester United, or move to Real Madrid? Same question regarding Ramos (just reverse the teams). The two players transfer moves are inter-twined now.
This storyline could potentially last a couple more months before it’s resolved. However, today actually brings something official for once. This Sunday, we have a real definitive narrative, and it’s good news for Man United supporters; at least in the short term.
De Gea, by far the team’s best player last season, has confirmed that he’ll report for United training camp when it opens tomorrow.
“Real Madrid? I have to train there. I have to go back to Manchester for the pre-season“, De Gea told Spanish TV’s ‘Cuatro’ reporter. De Gea also today reporters that he is remaining “calm” while the global media frenzy surrounds his future. It’s quite likely that De Gea returns to United this season; and instead makes his move to the Spanish capital next season.
Real Madrid and United have been millions of pounds apart in negotiating De Gea’s release clause fee, reportedly, and that’s led to an intractable impasse.
Especially when you consider that De Gea will be out of contract next year, and the Spanish keeper can return to his hometown free of charge to Los Blancos. (well, not free totally obviously, as he’ll get a MASSIVE contract to join Real, there won’t be a release clause)
This is one scenario; but a lot can happen over the next two months of the summer. And on the flip side, this could be a setback for the idea of Sergio Ramos moving to Old Trafford.
