(UPDATE: “Of course I would like Cristiano Ronaldo to come to Manchester United,” David De Gea told Goal.com, “but I think it’s difficult.”)
After David de Gea had that insanely amazingly great performance for Manchester United on Sunday, #DaveSaves became a worldwide trending term. As De Gea stopped almost everything and anything that came his way, numerous memes and graphics honored the valiant effort of David de Gea as he almost single-handedly brought Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Everton.
De Gea received a lot more media coverage than he usually does.
And that really says something, given how profile United are, and how much publicity they typically receive. One story even highlighted how De Gea almost left Old Trafford. The football punditocracy is clamoring for his ascension to Spain #1. Many pundits feel it’s not if but when he takes the reigns from current #1 goalkeeper Iker Casillas (who is interestingly rumored to be moving to Liverpool, so all kinds of potential club and country rivalries could arise from this situation)
We’ll save that discussion for later. Get it “save?”
For now let’s look at the best of #DaveSaves
