Juan Mata may not be the captain of Manchester United, that honor and duty falls to Wayne Rooney, but he is one of the more public leaders of the team. He’s only been with the club since January of 2014 (coming over from Chelsea for a then club record £37.1 million), but he’s established himself as one of the faces of the franchise.
He’s often selected as one of the few players who get the honor of modeling the new kits in promos, and last year he blogged on the club’s official site.
“The goalless draw against Newcastle last Saturday left us with a bad taste,” Juan Mata wrote on his blog. (this is on his personal page)
“Personally I think we deserved to win but that doesn’t count.”
“In my opinion the team had spells of our best football so far this season, and we created enough chances to score at least one goal.
“From a personal point of view, I felt very comfortable and was able to participate a lot, but I went home enraged for not being able to win, same as my teammates.”
