Manchester United target Ander Herrera was relegated to the bench for Athletic Bilbao’s game at Real Madrid this morning. Since he’s usually a starter, it provoked more transfer rumors. However, Manager Ernesto Valverde shot those down at his post-match press conference.
Valverde said: “I don’t need to be worried about the situation of Herrera, he has not asked to leave.”
“I believe that nothing will happen tomorrow (Player Transfer Window Expires). Thing’s have been very clear from the start. I don’t think I need to talk to the player (to keep him here).”
This is just more bad news for defending champion United. And it’s piling on. First, they lose star stryker Wayne Rooney for about 3 weeks with a head injury that required 10 stitches. Then lose their first match of the season, 1-0 to Liverpool. Now, the Spanish midfielder and subject of a £25.5million bid from Manchester United on Thursday evening is not coming to Old Trafford.
United will have to pay the 36 million Euros in the release clause of the contract to Bilbao, allowing Ander Herrera to join United.
Spanish newspapers claim United have already prepared a financial package to Ander Herrera.
