An extremely uneventful January transfer window at Manchester United will come to an end within hours. United haven’t bought anybody yet, and the deadline is just about 16 hours away. Victor Valdes finally being set free on loan was the only transfer to make actual news.
We were told no moves were made because Manager Louis van Gaal is supposedly on very shaky ground, and the club couldn’t be sure who’d be managing any new players potentially brought in. Speculation on Van Gaal’s future has been beaten to death already, so what stories are new and fresh? How about Nigerian team captain Ahmed Musa?
The CSKA Moscow attacker is a Red Devils target, and now it’s a race against the clock to see if a deal can get done.
(The other name being thrown around is Renato Sanches, here’s a link to more on that)
According to the Daily Mirror:
Leicester are set to take the fight for CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa to the Deadline Day wire.
Mirror Sport revealed last week that the Foxes had had a £15 million bid rejected for the highly-rated Nigeria captain, 23. Manchester United and Southampton have since declared their interest.
The 23-year-old forward is said to be valued around £19.6 million by United’s former UEFA Champions League group mates (who also failed to reach the knockout round). Ahmed Musa has scored 10 goals for CSKA this season and could give the United attack something it sorely needs- pace.
Musa has been described as lightning quick, with the ability to play both out wide and up top. United’s last couple winger purchases (Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay) haven’t worked out so well, so maybe this guy could finally be the answer to their issues at the position.
Or perhaps not as the BBC reports:
CSKA Moscow will not sell striker Ahmed Musa in this transfer window.
The Russian club turned down a fourth bid from Leicester City of $26.5m (£18.7m) for the Nigerian forward last week, which was an improvement on the original offer of $21.6m (£15.1m).
So who’s right and who’s wrong? Or maybe even both reports are wrong. I’ll guess we’ll find out in a matter of hours.
