Monday it became official- Pep Guardiola is taking over for Manuel Pellgrini at Man City, effective at the end of this season. In the wake of yesterday’s huge news, here are some of the most interesting Manchester City news and transfer rumor stories circulating amidst the Twitterverse, blogosphere, cyberspace and media world.
Here are several potential moves that Guardiola could make now that he’s in the charge. The most high profile likely and predictable transfer would probably be the departure of midfielder Yaya Toure.
Via The Sun- “Yaya Toure is ready to quit City in the wake of Guardiola’s appointment – he was ditched by the Spaniard when they were previously together at Barcelona.”
The London based publication also has a narrative regarding Pep’s former club-
“Guardiola has vowed not to raid current club Bayern Munich when he takes over as Manchester City boss in the summer but they will make an offer for £75m-rated striker Robert Lewandowski if Real Madrid kick off a bidding war.”
The Daily Express compiled a list of potential targets for Pep Guardiola too. It includes: “Thiago Alcantara, Ilkay Gundogan and Aymeric Laporte for his first summer as Manchester City manager.”
The Daily Mail has a similar Guardiola shopping list story but with different names. The publication writes:
“Pep Guardiola will be given a huge transfer war chest this summer by Manchester City with Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Everton centre-back John Stones at the top of his £130m shopping list.”
The Guardian mentions Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho as another potential name on the Guardiola’s summer shopping list.
Finally, what could become of Pellegrini now that Guardiola has supplanted him? The Daily Express has a take on that-
“Manuel Pellegrini’s next job could see him remain in the Premier League with Chelsea, who spoke to the 62-year-old before bringing Jose Mourinho back to the club in 2013.”
Watch this space come summertime.
