Steven Gerrard has made a lot of news lately. Reports came yesterday that he’s open to a move away from Liverpool. And he just retired from international football as the all-time third-most capped England player behind Peter Shilton and David Beckham. He captained the Three Lions on 38 occasions.
And what follows isn’t news, but it’s entertaining and interesting nonetheless.
In the Reds’ recent visit to New Jersey as part of their American tour, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard visited some of the mass number of fans waiting for a chance to say hi and perhaps an autograph. Gerrard granted that wish for one girl and, well, she totally freaked out and lost her mind.
You would think he played for a band that visited the USA from Liverpool, given that this is Beatles level hysteria. source Liverpool TV via CBS Sports
But off the pitch, the Liverpool legend is fighting for a bigger and more important cause. The UK now has the highest rate of obesity in Europe, with one in three children overweight or obese by the age of nine.
Steven Gerrard is teaming up with medical experts and academics to demand that cooking and food education should remain compulsory for all children aged five to 14 to help fight obesity.
