Newly minted Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has certainly been around the block, accomplishing a lot over the years with numerous former clubs: Liverpool, Napoli, Real Madrid. He’s led 12 different clubs since 1993. Despite all the potential job offers he might have had, Rafa Benitez decided to stay at Tyneside, with a club that’s now been relegated.
Give him time and Benitez will get things right. There’s just too much going on here for Newcastle not to be back in the top flight soon.
Think about the Benitez CV. Consider the money, the resources, the ground, all those things that NUFC have going for them. They’ll make this work, and relatively soon.
It was widely known for a little over a week that he was going to stay on with Newcastle, but it wasn’t officially announced until the past 24 hours. Here are a couple back page stories today reacting to the news.
-Daily Mirror
“Rafael Benitez says he does not have to sell Newcastle’s top players as he believes they will win immediate promotion back to the Premier League.”
-The Sun
“Rafael Benitez wants to become a Newcastle legend like Sir Bobby Robson.”
This is a big day for Benitez, the Magpies, and Geordies everywhere.
