Martin Skrtel, arguably Liverpool‘s best defender, has just signed a contract extension with the club. The team made the announcement today. In what has been an extremely busy and tumultuous transfer window, this is fantastic news for the club.
Defense was not the biggest team strength last year, and it was the club’s main weakness two years when the Reds finised runner-up to Manchester City in the 2013-14 Premier League standings. So the news that Skrtel has signed will be quite welcome to Liverpool supporters.
According to Sky Sports, “Skrtel’s future had been thrown into doubt after he rejected a contract offer from the Reds last month.“

As we articulated earlier this week, Liverpool have been the most active and interesting Premier League club this summer transfer window. They’ve brought in several new players already, including Robert Firmino, Nathaniel Clyne and James Milner. There has been talk that Christian Benteke could be next.
Of course, the Raheem Sterling saga has been overshadowing everything. Steven Gerrard weighed in today on the tug-of-war going on right now between Sterling and management. Stevie G. doesn’t believe that Sterling will return to Anfield. At least LFC supporters now know today that Skrtel will be.
