Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna says he should not have played against Liverpool on Saturday in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris. Sagna admitted the Parisian attacks were still on his mind during Saturday’s very unexpected 4-1 loss at home to Liverpool.
Sagna is a member of the France National Team, and he played in that fateful friendly against Germany at the Stade de France on Friday the 13th. On that 130 people lost their lives, including three outside the stadium during that specific match.
Sagna also played in that very emotional friendly on Tuesday night at London’s Wembley Stadium between France and England.
Asked if he felt he was ready for the Premier League fixture on Saturday, Sagna replied: “Mentally I was. Physically I believed I was, but I wasn’t. I felt tired quite quickly. I didn’t have as much power as I am used to.”
“It has not been my best week, but that is life. There is nothing you can do about it. This is part of the past. Just keep the head up. It was not easy to be part of that event, but that is life,” the former Arsenal man continued.
