Manchester United and Liverpool fans obviously don’t agree on much, but they certainly agreed on how disappointing the result, from an entertainment perspective, was last night. So much for all that “Red Monday” hype and hoopla. There were no losers, except the spectators and viewers, yesterday.
The draw is actually a better result for United than it is for Liverpool, in the grand scheme of things.
The post game reactions between the two managers was extremely stark in their contrast. Also, for what’s it worth Jurgen Klopp is winning the social media battle over United boss Jose Mourinho. According to 888sport manager social index, Klopp had 201 Tweets over Mourinho’s 192.
After playing an extremely conservative game, essentially content to settle for a draw, The Special One called out Liverpool for not attacking. Thus, he blamed the other side for the lack of scoring in this one.
Typical mind games from Mourinho, and I actually do mean that as a compliment. He wasn’t done though. Mourinho also made a very condescending remark at a Sky Sports reporter about his the journalist’s view of Liverpool, and of the Liverpool side in general.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, on the other hand, was more friendly with the media. He was obviously disappointed in the fact that they didn’t win, but he still was able to have some fun with his responses in his interview; saying “yippe” to the fact that LFC received their first clean sheet of the season.
“They didn’t create chances, they had two maybe in the second half — one that we gave them was offside and the other was the header from [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic,” Klopp said.
“We had two or three [shots], great saves from De Gea, but at the end our performance was not how it should be. It is a first clean sheet, so yippee, but that’s actually all what I’m happy about.”
He also said that his team, (and you can then assume everybody emotionally connected to them) need to “have respect but be cool” in reacting to the defensive, ultra-conservative style played by their opponent.
“We weren’t calm enough, that is their style, that is OK. You need to have respect but be cool. That is not the way we want to play, but I accept it.
“We got a point, there are worse things in the world.”
Love the perspective on life there by Jurgen Klopp, in the midst of a game that was hyped up beyond belief. The Jurgen Klopp “be cool” also reminded us of when the LFC boss told writers last year “to cool down now” with all their insanely fast typing.
