With the first college football playoff rankings of 2015 released tonight, it’s even more grist for the “Iowa Hawkeyes are overrated” mill. If you want to rage against the Iowa Hawkeyes are #9 machine, then you’ve got plenty of supporters for this argument.

Anyway, let’s take a look at the rankings.

When asked who is most overrated team was, David Pollack said “No. 9 Iowa… simply based on their body of work to this point of the season.”
Under the previous BCS system, Iowa appeared in the rankings on 38 occasions between 2002-2010. Iowa’s highest ranking came during the 2009 season, when the Hawkeyes were ranked fourth on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. Iowa concluded the season with a win over Georgia Tech in the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl. Iowa ended the 2009 season ranked 10th in the final poll.
