These are tumultuous times for the Indiana Hoosiers basketball program. Already predicted to finish in the Big Ten’s second division this season; a host of off-the-court issues flared up this week. IU is now truly a program in crisis. Troy Williams is one of the few bright spots as he’s got real NBA potential (as we’ve chronicled). If the mother of Troy Williams made a NBA mock draft, she’d certainly have her son in the lottery.
At least given the the way she brought up her son’s NBA draft stock on her Instagram account. For what it’s worth, here’s our latest mock draft, and you can see where we have Troy Williams.
I truly do feel for her. One should never direct their hate for an athlete against a family member on social media. They’re innocent of any wrongdoing. Leave them out of it. In fact, why is anybody attacking any ballplayers on social media at all? What does that do?
How does that help things?
Patty Williams is right, you people do need to have more going on in your own lives.
On the other hand, she should also be above responding to this nonsense. With all her foul language, not to mention the bad grammar and numerous mis-spellings, this NSFW rant is very difficult to look at. Yes, the spotlight in bright at IU hoops, and unfortunately, this sort of ugly fan and social media antagonist comes with the territory when your son signs up to play at Assembly Hall.
And in the NBA the pressure and attention only increases.
It’s just very hard for everybody right now in Bloomington: Troy Williams, his mom Patty Williams, Tom Crean, Indiana basketball. (but Crean isn’t going anywhere due to the tremendous size of his buyout and Brad Stevens is not coming any time soon)
Here’s what Williams wrote on her Instagram account:

I wouldn’t expect much comment on this matter from Tom Crean, or Indiana. They’re in shut down mode right now. And you know how much Crean loves talking to the media, even in times good.
