Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck was featured in the prime time game of NFL’s week one. Unfortunately his Colts suffered a tough loss at the hands of Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. The Colts got blown out of the building early, but stormed back late to make it interesting. During Football Night in America, which led into the game, Luck had an exclusive interview with NBC Sports in which he spoke about the beautiful game.
On attending the World Cup this past summer: “I grew up in Europe, so soccer was a big part of my childhood. I’ve always loved soccer…so to get a chance to go to the World Cup and see the U.S. play, I think that’s really neat.”
So who is his side? Well despite his London upbringing, it’s not Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal.
From the Andrew Luck Wikipedia page:
“As a result of his childhood in London, he is a fan of soccer. Although supporters of London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham have reached out to him believing he was a fellow fan, Luck said, “I try to support as many of the American fellows playing [in the Premier League] as possible.” Luck said the Houston Dynamo was the “number one team in my heart”, because his father was the club’s founding president and general manager.”
We’re guessing he’s not a supporter of Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers, Fulham or Crystal Palace either.
Here’s an example of where his interests in the sport lay, which includes a mention of Tottenham actually. It’s an excerpt from an interview in The Big Lead.
Andrew Luck: Yes, I was a fan of soccer, and I do follow soccer still. My favorite app on the iPad is the MLS app. It’s got a great layout of everything and the Dynamo are my favorite team. I try to follow all the American guys who are playing overseas like Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, Tim Howard, all those guys.
Q: So you kept up with Clint Dempsey’s drama in moving over to Tottenham?
Andrew Luck: And I’m glad he finally landed somewhere, hopefully playing again.
