I don’t know what’s harder to keep up with: Jereme Richmond legal trouble or GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL RECRUIT ever Gunner Kiel tranfers. Both events happen frequently, so it’s hard to remember it all. Troubled former Illinois Mr. Basketball and Illini hoops one-and-done Jereme Richmond was sent back to jail this morning under accusations of making threats to his probation officer.
I guess now would be the time to list all of the arrests on the Jereme Richmond rap sheet, but at this point…Jereme Richmond going to court/jail/probation is like a James Brown song with a “HHHHHHHH!!!” in it. It’s just par for the course.
Here’s the latest.
From the Chicago Tribune:
Weeks shy of completing his probation on an earlier weapons charge, Richmond now faces the prospect of years in prison if convicted on new felony charges of witness harassment and disorderly conduct.
Richmond, 21, of Waukegan, had already been due in court this morning as authorities sought to revoke his probation because, they said, he had refused to submit to court-ordered drug testing.
But Thursday, prosecutors said, Richmond showed up at the probation office, angrily confronted his probation officer about why he was being taken back to court, told her to “be safe,” left the building and then circle the parking lot in his car several times, making a hand gesture in the form of a gun.
Jereme Richmond left the Illini after one lackluster year in Champaign to declare for the NBA Draft. This decision ranked right up there with Shelly Long leaving “Cheers.” Both people’s careers never recovered. Jereme Richmond was invited to the NBA Draft combine, so many teams were very interested. However, it was reported that Richmond flaked on a meeting with the Phoenix Suns, and his reputation preceded him. Jereme Richmond went undrafted; despite the endorsement of his former coach Bruce Weber.
Jereme Richmond allegedly wanted to fist fight the entire Illini hoops team following the 2011 Big Ten Tournament loss to the Michigan Wolverines. Allegedly, Brandon Paul took him up on that offer. Making Brandon Paul more likable to Illini Nation and Richmond suspended for the NCAA Tournament. However, the Illini and the Phoenix Suns aren’t the only teams Jereme Richmond has quit on; there’s also the semi-pro team with home games at a high school gym. Richmond bailed on them before one of their playoff games. So I’m sure the four people who attended that were disappointed.
Jereme Richmond also had a disagreement with his preps coach and transferred while in high school.
