Thursday brought extremely shocking news to the football world as Zinedine Zidane abruptly resigned as Real Madrid manager. He announced this move in a press conference just a few hours ago. Zidane leaves the Santiago Bernabeu after three seasons, having won the UEFA Champions League in all three years. The frenchman also claimed two UEFA Super Cups, two Club World Cups, one La Liga title and one Spanish Super Cup.
Today’s news event is nothing short of seismic, as it leaves us wondering who the kings of Europe will hire next as his replacement. (here is a link to our list of six early candidates) We also have to wonder what’s next for Zidane, who did a thorough and emphatic job of answering his critics this season.
There had been some grumblings that Zinedine Zidane would be out as manager this summer if Madrid failed to win Champions League, but no one thought he would be leaving the club after achieving the UCL three peat. Real became the first team to win three in a row since Bayern Munich in the mid 1970s.
“I know it is a strange moment for everyone involved,” said Zidane, “but it had to be done for everybody.”
With Zidane now moving on, and the football super power having a major job vacancy, let’s take a look at some of the better reactions to this huge news event, which was only announced a couple hours ago.

What if Old Trafford ousted Jose Mourinho? Would United fans want Zidane in charge? You can vote in this poll.
