International break is winding down now (thank goodness!). A two week period of dull tedium interspersed with sometimes concerning, other times down right infuriating, injury news now gives way to previewing the resumption of club play this weekend. The biggest fixture in the English Premier League is of course Manchester United at Liverpool Saturday afternoon.
When these two arch-rivals get together, it’s always the headliner fixture, and that’s certainly the case this time in the match-up of league title contenders at Anfield in three days.
Let’s take a look at some of the news surrounding this clash trending on the internet right now.
-First and foremost, Liverpool announced on their official website that Sadio Mane, arguably their top offensive weapon last season, is now out of action with a hamstring injury for the next six weeks. Go here for more on that.
-The Manchester Evening News made a combined starting XI team, and it’s completely dominated by United. It all starts with the Red Devils comprising the entire back five, and you can see why they made the picks that they did at this link. Here’s their team listed out below.
COMBINED XI: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Young, Matic, Herrera, Coutinho, Mane, Martial, Lukaku.
-There was nothing that burned up Sir Alex Ferguson more during his managing days than losing at Anfield. United club legend Gary Neville told a story about playing at Anfield, and it revealed the full ferocity of Fergie’s anti-Liverpool sentiment.
The Daily Mirror has some quotes from Gary Neville’s Soccerbox – a new Sky Sports show where the pundit sits down with other former players to go through some famous Premier League moments. Neville told his tale to Liverpool club legend Jamie Carragher.
The M.E.N. also did a story on the same Neville tale. Read that over at this link.
