In the words of Ron Burgundy- “boy that escalated quickly.” Get your memes ready as the transfer narrative surrounding former Tottenham Hotspur right back Kyle Walker progressed with lightning quickness. Thursday brought news that a deal had been reached with Manchester City medical pending. On Friday we saw the unveiling photos and announcement posts.
It’s not just any ordinary summer transfer either, as the Kyle Walker transfer fee eclipsed David Luiz to become the most expensive defender in history. The £50 million sum also surpasses Raheem Sterling as the costliest English footballer in history.

Kyle Walker is a bit of a “panic buy,” as City were left with no senior team right backs prior to acquiring him. The Etihad was also left stunned when Juventus’ Dani Alves snubbed their advances, and signed with Paris Saint-Germain instead. Man City was forced to act on their contingency plans, and overpaid for a player who didn’t even see the first team in some crucial matches for Spurs down the stretch last season, as they made a final push for the league title.
