Tottenham Hotspur blasted Stoke City today 5-1 at Wembley Stadium, a performance that Spurs talisman Harry Kane hailed as “on fire.” The rout at the national stadium was exactly what Spurs needed, as they came into this one desperately seeking a win.
Tottenham had just one victory in their last six entering the weekend, and now was the perfect time to try and right the ship.
“That was what we needed, we had to get the first goal, we did that and that was it, we were on fire from there,” Harry Kane said as the north London club ended their four game losing streak.
“It’s strange, over the last couple of years we struggled against Stoke, but coming off a few bad results we were always going to be up for it. Son was very good.”
“He got the first goal and it was a great finish for the second, that set us on our way and got everyone firing. We look forward to the busy period now.”
Kane was right to point out the heroics of Heung-Min Son. The South Korean saw his cross deflect off Ryan Shawcross for Spurs’ first goal, credited as an own to the Potters in the 21’.
He then scored the second at 53’, with Harry Kane scoring his first just a minute a later. Kane would end up with a brace, and Son set up Christian Eriksen for Tottenham’s fifth goal at the 74’.
Kane now has 19 goals across all competitions as Tottenham head into the festive period fixture congestion. Starting Wednesday, Spurs will have four games in 13 days. The New Year doesn’t get any easier as they have three games in the first six days of 2018.
