Paris Saint-Germain right back Serge Aurier is reportedly getting closer to moving to Tottenham Hotspur, having now overcome a major obstruction in his transfer. Spurs and PSG agreed to a deal last week, but there was a holdup over legal issues.
White Hart Lane was unsure if Aurier would even be able to obtain a UK work permit to enter the country due to his being found guilty of assaulting a police officer outside a Paris nightclub. “He was convicted and given a two-month ‘convertible’ prison sentence, which he is unlikely ever to serve, as well as a €600 fine and a €1,500 damages bill,” reports The Independent.
However, The Telegraph reports that Aurier learned today: “that the French courts had downgraded the criminal conviction he received last year, allowing him to successfully submit a normal work permit application.”
Back on August 10th, it had been in reported, in multiple countries that Serge Aurier reached an agreement for a five year deal to move to Manchester United, but that’s obviously now proven to be fake news. He becomes the third summer transfer window addition for Spurs, joining Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez (who broke the club transfer fee record) and Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
