The phrase “shock the world” is an extremely over-used and usually meaningless cliche. With Leicester City however, it’s very real. No one expected to them to be here in the position that they are. The Foxes run has been so unexpected that casinos and sports books are essentially trying to settle now with the wagerers who took the team and their long odds to win it all back in the early going.
Leicester City is indeed the story of the season and their against all odds rise is sending shockwaves; literally.
A group of University of Leicester students studying seismic shifts placed some sensors near the King Power Stadium. Their findings included seismic shifts that occurred in conjunction with the Foxes scoring a goal. Yes supporter celebrations are actually causing small earthquakes.
One of the students, Richard Hoyle, revealed the realization of what was triggering the events.
“A few days after we installed the equipment at the school and were analyzing data collected, we noticed large peaks on the seismogram during football matches being held in the stadium nearby.
“A closer look showed us there was a strong correlation between the exact time Leicester scored at home and the occurrence of the large seismic signals. We concluded our equipment was measuring small earthquakes produced by the sudden energy release by the cheering Leicester fans celebrating at the moment a goal was scored.”
Indeed Jamie Vardy, Danny Drinkwater, Claudio Ranieri and the rest of Leicester City are indeed sending shockwaves throughout the universe this season.
