From Real Madrid to relegation. Rafa Benitez has decided to stick around Tyneside in their hour of need and rebuild the club which was been demoted down to the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League.
Yes, Newcastle United are set to confirm Rafa Benitez is staying on as manager at the start of next week as they put the final touches to the terms of the deal to keep him at St James’ Park, this according to a story today in The Telegraph.
Benitez has spent the last few days looking at potential transfer targets and is planning for the future on the basis he will still be Newcastle manager at the start of next season. Talks last week with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley progressed well and the club have been trying to get everything in place for Benitez to agree to stay.
Give him time and Rafa Benitez will get things right. There’s just too much going on here for Newcastle not to be back in the top flight soon. Think about what Benitez accomplished at Napoli and Real Madrid. Consider the money, the resources, the ground, all those things that NUFC have going for them.
They’ll make this work, and relatively soon.
Expect a formal announcement at some point this week.
