Marouane Fellaini sent an interesting text message to his fellow Belgian Romelu Lukaku ahead of his arrival at Manchester United. There will likely be other transfer window purchases at United this summer, but none will likely be bigger than Lukaku, who could, with the help of add-ons, eclipse teammate and close friend Paul Pogba for the world’s largest transfer fee amount.
In other words, this deal is as blockbuster as it gets, and thus MUFC rolled out Lukaku Hollywood style yesterday.
At a big money club with big time expectations, the Lukaku acquisition is a big deal, both literally and figuratively.
Fellaini gave Lukaku some advice to his countryman ahead of the transfer.
‘He ( Fellaini ) spoke to me two days ago and he sent me a message saying: ‘Now you will discover how big and how great the club is.” Lukaku told MUTV, the video channel on the club’s official website.
‘I said to him I have already realised it a little.
‘To have a guy who plays with me in the national team and one of my best friends in life in my team is great to get to know the players.’ (transcription via Metro)
Lukaku was on vacation with Pogba in Los Angeles while the deal was getting done, and then later finalized.
He also worked out with Pogba at United’s summer exhibition tour training facilities, before the rest of the team flew in to southern California this past weekend.
