Time for an update on the future of Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It had been previously reported that Ibrahimovic ‘s one year deal would be extended to include a second, and the Swede is indeed hoping that he will get that season, plus an additional season on top of it.
United Manager Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave his usual weekly press conference today, and he discussed the topic of Zlatan’s future with the club.
“I see him staying with us because he was the initial agreement to come to us for one year plus us to have the option so I see him staying with us,” said Mourinho.
“It’s been an amazing successful year for him, doesn’t matter what is going to happen until end of the season but the number of goals he’s scored, the trophy he won, the impact he had, the two times he played in the cathedral is more than enough to consider him a success at Manchester United.”
“But this team has a lot to grow up, the next transfer window will bring the team to a different level because we are going to try and bring a few players, so I think Zlatan will be fundamental in the second year of this team and I think he’s willing to stay.”
“But that’s my way, right or wrong, I only want players who want to stay 100 per cent but my feelings are that he’s really proud of himself, he’s happy with the success of his situation, so I see him staying with us.”
In terms of that story recently in circulation claiming that Ibra’s staying at Old Trafford hinges on UEFA Champions League qualification next year? Perhaps it was just planted somewhere by Ibrahimovic’s agent, Mino Raiola?
Maybe it was just textbook agent tactics in order to drive up the price of the contract.
Ibrahimovic said he came to United to win trophies and claiming that obtaining silverware is what he envisioned when he signed with Old Trafford.
