Manchester United supporters rejoiced today as wonderkid Angel Gomes signed his first professional contract with the club.

The 17-year-old, who was named MUFC young player of the year in 2017, said: “It’s amazing and something I’ve been working for my whole life and all the time. I’ve been at the club since the age of six.to finally get the deal signed is great for me and my family.”

Gomes made his debut with the senior club this past May, when he subbed on for Wayne Rooney in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the regular season finale.

That match, in which manager Jose Mourinho fielded a lot of youngsters, gave Red Devils fans a glimpse into what they could expect from both the youth system in general and the uber-prospect individually in the near future. That appearance made Gomes the youngest player to feature for United in the Premier League era, and the youngest to see the pitch since Duncan Edwards, way back in 1983. He simply wowed ’em at the England U17s this year.

“I’ve worked with a lot of great coaches coming up [through the ranks] so far,” Gomes continued.

“I’ve had a chance to work with Nicky [Butt] and working with coaches like him helps you a lot because as you’re growing up you’re feeding off what they used to do and the trophies they won. It’s been a great journey so far.”
