One of the major Manchester United/England talking points this international break was the striker position. Wayne Rooney has been out of action since mid February due to a knee injury. He probably won’t return for another month. Even though he was out of action last night, England Twitter still shredded the Three Lions and Red Devils skipper to pieces on Monday night.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane opened the scoring for England, and gave an overall tremendous performance as the national team upset Germany 3-2 in an international friendly.
Leicester City scoring sensation Jamie Vardy contributed a goal as well, The stellar performances of Vardy and Kane shaped the narrative this week that Kane and Vardy are the future while Wayne Rooney is the past. Thus providing the background leading up to this snippet from Fox Soccer:
“The Man United captain revealed on ITV during its coverage of Tuesday’s friendly vs the Netherlands that his son asked him for a new England shirt … with Vardy’s name on the back!”
