Chelsea FC might end up having the most interesting and news-worthy summer transfer window when all is said and done. Some of the Blues transactions could have ripple effects throughout the football world too, creating a domino theory. One of the first dominoes could fall at Manchester United.
The Daily Mail writes that “Chelsea are close to signing Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco for £35 million, which could prompt Nemanja Matic to leave for Manchester United.”
On Monday, the London Evening Standard reported that Chelsea were moving closer towards adding Temoue Bakayoko to the fold.
They also claimed that a Romelo Lukaku return was is in the works. Lukaku has also been linked to United recently, and the striker himself has spoken up publicly about the transfer rumors linking him to both clubs.
It’s been thought that Manchester United will be buying four new player this summer transfer window- a defender, striker, holding midfielder and a winger. Victor Lindelof is the first addition/deal completed, so that takes care of the defender position.
Regarding a holding midfielder, the idea here is that Jose Mourinho would be able to find a guy who could get the very best Paul Pogba return on investment. The club extended Michael Carrick another year, but this summer they’re reportedly seeking a long term anchor.
Perhaps it could be Nemanja Matic.
With Matic, you get a reunion with Mourinho, and a chance for the Portugese to do more of what he likes to do with shapes and tactics, as he’s got another player he’s very familiar with. Would Chelsea want to sell though? Perhaps if they already have a replacement lined up, which would of course be Bakayoko.
Metro has picked up on this domino theory, as they write: “Chelsea are open to selling Nemanja Matic as the midfielder is interested in a move to Manchester United, according to reports.”
It should be a very interesting summer transfer window at both of these giant English clubs.
