Huge, and I mean HUGE NEWS today that Manchester United have signed Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. It’s official now, and we broke down what the signing means in detail here.
Schweinsteiger like David de Gea, has a celebrity girlfriend. It’s tennis star Ana Ivanovic. (De Gea’s significant other is Spanish pop singer Edurne)
Ivanovic is a former world #1. The 27-year-old Serbian is reportedly 6’1″ tall.
She beat Dinara Safina to win the 2008 French Open and was the runner-up in singles at the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open. Competing as a professional since 2003, she has won 15 WTA Tour singles titles, including one Grand Slam event. When on form, Ivanovic is known for her aggressive style of play.
On September 8, 2007, Ana Ivanovic became a UNICEF National Ambassador for Serbia.
Prior to her relationship with Schweinsteiger, Ivanovic had dated Mark Stillitano, a former tennis player. They met through iconic tennis superstar Novak Djokovic right before the Australian Open. The news of their split comes just days before Wimbledon 2012. Ivanovic, as you can see from some of the photos included here, is one of the many high profile athletes to have participated in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue photo shoot.
Which, for today’s day and age of extreme political correctness, always results in “controversy.”
It’s not internet commenters and social media yahoos who could offended by such things these days. It’s other mainstream media types too.
Well, to those malcontents I say:
1. If you have issues with my inclusion of such photos here, I suggest you that problem up with Ana Ivanovic, the person who posed for them, and/or SI, the publication that did the shoot.
2. Ivanovic is a grown woman, who can do whatever she wants, who are you to say that she shouldn’t have posed for these pics? You’re the morality police for some reason?
3. Why are you upset about something as trivial as this, when there are so many actual problems in the real world to deal with?
Ok, enough soapbox stuff.
Aside from her prolific tennis career, Ana Ivanovic studies finance and Spanish at a university in Belgrade and Spanish in her Monica Seles is her tennis inspiration and role model. The former Yugoslavia national team player inspired Ivanovic to take up the game.
Ana Ivanovic is currently ranked #7 in the world, according to the latest rankings. Schweinsteiger and her make a legitimate global sports power couple
