Stop us if you have heard this one before- Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku was a total no show in a huge game against an elite opponent. The Manchester Derby was probably as big as it has ever been in Sunday’s edition, and like any massive tilt, you had your share of heroes and goats.
Ederson and David Silva on the side of the victorious visitors, Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford for the vanquished hosts. Then you had some flops too- with Romelu Lukaku being the name at the top of the list.
This match also involved a massive brawl between both teams in the tunnel afterward, but that’s another story we entirely, and we covered that over at this link.
Getting back to Lukaku, when you’re the second most expensive player in United history, you come with astronomical expectations and when those expectations aren’t fulfilled…well, then you get torn apart on social media, and it’s deserved when you consider all that comes with the territory of being a world famous, well paid big time footballer.
Here is just a small sampling:
Stats don’t lie-
Romelu Lukaku against the Top 6 this season:
? Manchester City (0 goals + 2 assists for City)
? Chelsea (0 goals + 0 assists)
? Arsenal (0 goals + 0 assists)
? Spurs (0 goals + 0 assists)
? Liverpool (0 goals + 0 assists) pic.twitter.com/7XFCdu5Ahk
