Between Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho is showing it’s best to hire those that you already have experience working with. Mourinho tutored both Matic and Lukaku when he was at Chelsea, and the duo have been brilliant in the first two games this season for him with the Red Devils.
For the second time in two games,United were overwhelmingly impressive. In both week one and week two they conveyed the kind of dominance that we used to see with regularity during the Sir Alex Ferguson era. The 4-0 trouncing of West Ham in the Premier League curtain raiser was followed up by another 4-0 destruction, this time at Swansea City.
Jose Mourinho is known as a defensive oriented manager, so football fans seeing eight goals in two games may be having their eyes pop out. Well, take a look at when the scoring strikes occurred. Eric Bailly got his first ever in a red shirt (45′), just before the stroke of halftime.
Romelu Lukaku achieved his third on the season (80′), Paul Pogba bagged his second on the young campaign (82′) and Anthony Martial then further establishing his case that he should be in the first team (84′). Matic was elite again; being the distributor who makes it all happen. Henrikh Mkhitaryan chipping in two assists. Overall, it was another complete team effort, exactly like the performance in week one.
