There is some hot Manchester United summer transfer window talk today, with a report centering around Real Madrid square peg in a round hole James Rodriguez.
Columbian publication Soccer Laduma writes that:
“ESPN has claimed that the attacking midfielder has been “offered” to United, but a potential deal could still be a long way off. They compare his situation to that of Angel Di Maria’s back in 2014, when he was apparently offered to the Red Devils ahead of his Man of the Match performance in the UEFA Champions League final.
Di Maria, though, only ended up signing for United in August, and the situation around James could follow a similar path.
Real Madrid paid €75 million to Monaco for Rodriguez after the 2014 FIFA World Cup, when the player’s stock was at an all time high. James Rodriguez, at that time, was wanted by every club on the globe after his wonderful World Cup exploits for the Colombian National Team. He also became a general interest world wide web viral sensation due to photographers capturing the image of a huge disgusting bug attaching itself to him in the quarterfinal.
Rodriguez is in high demand again this summer, wanted by numerous teams, but not it seems by his current one. James Rodriguez just doesn’t quite fit in with Los Blancos and what they strive to do.
Perhaps Manchester United could provide the escape route that he needs to find a destination where he can truly maximize his potential?
Well, it remains subject to debate how he would fit in at Old Trafford too. It’s debatable given who stays or goes at MUFC this summer and what kind of shape Jose Mourinho wants to take with the team. Rodriguez has also been linked to Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain.
