Just a couple days ago, Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho expressed his dismay with how his club’s summer transfer window has gone. He said he was resigned to the fact that he will have to settle for only one more acquisition, not two before the deadline closes.
Who that one player will be, remains to be seen. Could it be Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier? The Independent seems to believe so, as United’s pursuit of Monaco man Fabinho seems to be going nowhere. Fabinho had previously said that he was “tempted” by the idea of moving to Old Trafford, but the Ligue 1 club is playing a little too much hardball with United during negotiations.
Maybe Aurier will be next for United, because progress towards all of the other remaining transfer targets seems to have stalled. Pursuit of Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier and Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic hasn’t led anywhere, and that doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon.
The Independent writes of Aurier: “the Ivorian international would also be cheaper than Fabinho and could feasibly be signed for £25m.”
Aurier presents some character red flags for United though. He has some off-the-pitch issues, writes NBC Sports. According to Pro Soccer Talk, Aurier was found “guilty of assaulting a police officer in Paris and was also suspended by PSG for allegedly mocking teammate Angel di Maria and then manager Laurent Blanc in a periscope session.”
