Marcus Rashford scored the lone goal of Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Benfica in UEFA Champions League group stage action tonight at the Estadio da Luz. Rashford’s free kick from the left in the 64′ fooled 18-year-old Benfica goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who was making his Champions League debut, but unfortunately for the United forward, he limped off in the 76′.

United are already thin at the position, as they await the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

When once asked about the topic, Mourinho declined to discuss the Marcus Rashford injury and instead diverted the conversation into a subtle dig at Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte, claiming that he does not cry about injuries, like he believes Conte does.

At a different media opportunity, the Portuguese tactician revealed that injury could be serious, and that the initial assessment was wrong.

“I thought it was cramps, a bit of fatigue, but no it was something he felt in his knee,” Mourinho told BT Sport.

“I hope nothing too bad.”

Marcus Rashford was replaced by Anthony Martial, who like Rashford has been extremely effective this season when called upon. The two have been alternating first team appearances with both being very productive.

However, the injuries are really starting to pile up now for United. It remains to be seen how serious the injury to Rashford is, but the Red Devils have plenty of walking wounded already as it is- Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Eric Bailly.

Then you have the long term absentees Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic too.
