It continues to be a very exciting summer at Manchester United, with plenty of topics to discuss. What offseason, right?
So let’s take a spin through the latest news and notes items making the rounds on the internet this World Cup weekend day.
-It’s hard to name an individual player who has been more over-analyzed and widely criticized at this World Cup than United/France midfielder Paul Pogba. Why is there so much criticism heaped on Pogba all the time?
His former teammate, Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes he has the answer. Ibra, currently away from the struggling Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer to do World Cup punditry, was his usual colorful self, and we expected nothing less.
“Pogba is controversial, the media always talks about him and I think this is out of jealousy,” Ibrahimovic told BeIN Sports. (h/t Goal)
“He has a big salary and always plays at the big matches and tournaments.”
Ibrahimovic then made a very big and bold claim. “He is the best midfielder in the world and because of that he has a lot of haters,” he added. Pogba scored the game winning goal, assisted by VAR, as France beat Australia today 2-1 today.
-Finally, we shift from the World Cup to some roster assessment and transfer market talk. Andreas Pereira may finally get a chance to earn a place in the United team. He’s been on loan at Valencia the past two years, but the Manchester Evening News reports Pereira doesn’t want to move on to another club and be awhile from United for a third consecutive year.
M.E.N. “understands Pereira wants to stay at United and would not entertain a move to, say, Turkey after two successful loan spells in Spain.”
