It’s another international break and thus, kind of a slow time when it comes to big headlines, but there’s still a whole lot of important Manchester United news items out there. Here are links to some of the more relevant United news stories currently circulating on the internet.
–Ryan Giggs, who recently took over as manager of the Wales National Team, advises Gareth Bale to snub Manchester United and stay at Real Madrid.
Bale, who this week became his country’s all-time leading scorer, remains a long time transfer target of United, but Giggs thinks the high scoring forward should reject the opportunity to play for his former club of 29 years.
“It’s Real Madrid – there are only a handful of clubs who have got that aura,” Giggs said (via The Guardian).
“Of course you would want to stay there. What’s Gareth won, three Champions League titles? The proof is in that. When you are at clubs like that, you are always going to win things. Gareth has the ability to score every type of goal and there are similarities with Cristiano Ronaldo. They both started out as wingers and they are now goal scorers.”
Giggs saw his managing career finally commence with a 6-0 drubbing (largely due to a Bale hat trick) of China in an international friendly. He also served as caretaker manager at United when David Moyes was sacked. Giggs stayed on as an assistant under Louis van Gaal, but once Jose Mourinho took over, there was no longer a place for him at Old Trafford.
The Welshman said he learned just how lonely it is at the top of team’s food chain.
“I learned a lot about how lonely it was when I was United manager,” he said. “When you shut the door of your office and everyone else has gone home, you’re on your own.
“It’s good to have people around and you want those people to be the ones you trust, but it can still be a lonely place. Ultimately you’re the boss and you have to make the decisions.”
-The England national team was badly in need of some positive momentum, and United winger Jesse Lingard was looking to boost his prospects of getting onto the World Cup roster this summer. Both were accomplished today as Lingard scored the only goal in England’s 1-0 win over the Netherlands, a moment he describes as among the best in his career.
“It’s up there with my best moment. It’s always an honor to score as well is a massive bonus. I took a bit of time, tried to concentrate on it and I tired to give the keeper the eyes,” he said (via the Mirror).
“Of course I want to start (in Russia). When you work hard you get the rewards so from now I will carry on working hard and see where it gets me.”
Upon hearing the Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS announcement, Nemanja Matic posted a photo of the pair on his Instagram account with the caption: “Do not forget to take your left leg with you, even if you only use right one… Good luck for you and your lovely family. We will miss you.”
