Man United Injury Updates: Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young

Manchester United have three players recovering from long term injuries- defender Luke Shaw, defender/midfielder Ashley Young and defender Marcos Rojo. All three joined the squad for the preseason exhibition tour of the United States, but they were not available for selection in the Super Cup loss to Real Madrid, nor the Premier League season opening win over West Ham United at home on August 13.

Today Rojo gave the world an insight into his recovery and rehabilitation at United’s Carrington training complex. The Argentine posted a video of his knee being assessed with the caption, when translated into English:

‘Listening to the club and working since early.’

Rojo conveyed how hard he is working right now, but he still has a long way to go. He suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament in the Europa League win over Anderlecht last April, and is targeting late 2017 to early 2018 as a return date.

Young and Shaw both participated in a six-a-side training match at Old Trafford this past weekend, following United’s resounding 4-0 win over West Ham. Both could match fit and available for selection sometime next month.

The last time we received an official update on the trio’s status was three and a half weeks ago (obviously some things have changed since then).

“They have no chance for the beginning of the Premier League season. Luke Shaw is the first one to recover, Marcos will be last and Ash will be in between,” said Mourinho on July 23rd.

“Luke is September, Young is October and Rojo is December, or maybe January, but it’s good to have them.”
