It’s not often that midfielder Scott McTominay and defender Luke Shaw see themselves handed a first team appearance. However, both youngsters were named to the starting XI for Manchester United’s home clash against AFC Bournemouth tonight. Usually, these are names that we only see during smaller cup competitions.
Wednesday’s inclusion of the duo sends a couple of clear messages. First, Luke Shaw will be given his chances to prove himself and earn a spot, amidst all the transfer rumors claiming the young Englishman is out the Old Trafford door this January.
Secondly, McTominay continues to gain valuable experience and the opportunities to prove himself as a valuable member of the team.
He got the call over Ander Herrera tonight, who was named to the bench. It’s a very depleted midfield, with Marouane Fellaini still out, and Paul Pogba continuing to serve his suspension.
