Luke Shaw has certainly had the best of times and the worst of times during his Manchester United career. He’s gone from settling in at the left back position, to far out of favor, to incessantly being linked with an Old Trafford exit, to now back in the starting XI. The young Englishman told the official MUFC magazine how he battled adversity to become a starter again.
Along the way, he’s battled numerous injuries, including one gruesome and notorious double leg break that garnered worldwide attention. Not to mention he’s been publicly thrown under the bus by both the current manager and his predecessor.
Since breaking the British transfer fee record for a teenager when United brought him up from Southampton in summer 2014, Luke Shaw has been called out by both Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal. He’s seen his fitness, commitment and focus questioned by his bosses over the course of the past four years.
However, it’s all in the past now. In an interview with United Review, Shaw was asked what the secret to his comeback is.
The left back was quick to point out the positive influence of Mourinho:
‘The manager has been really good with me and has given me extra confidence. He’s just told me to go out and enjoy the games and that’s what I’ve been doing. I’m focused on working really hard for the manager and for the team because I want to keep on playing and hopefully more games will come.’
