Juan Mata is making headlines again today, but this time for a completely different reason. Yesterday it was all about the clause clause in his contract being activated, and thus his agent how having the ability to negotiate with foreign clubs. It is possible that Mata could leave United on a free transfer this summer, but it remains more likely that he’ll stay and the two sides will figure out a new deal to keep him around longer term.
Today Mata is in the news for saying in an interview that he believes the Premier League title race is not over, and that his side will fight City down to the end.
Fellow midfield mate Paul Pogba made similar comments Monday night after the win over Stoke City. United are 12 points behind their neighbors with 15 games to play.
“Manchester City are doing things really well,” Juan Mata told Radio Marca.
“We are second and we managed to cut three points after winning at the weekend and City losing against Liverpool. We are 12 points away and they have a big advantage, but we don’t give up and we intend to win all of our remaining games and see where we are at in May.
“If there’s something that the Premier League has, it’s that in recent years, it has been kind of crazy, things happening that you wouldn’t see in any other leagues. We hope that is the case and we can have a chance.”
