Monday was an action packed news day regarding injured Manchester United stars. Juan Mata posted a fitness update on his blog, which was then linked on the official club site. ESPN FC broke a story indicating that Ander Herrera faces a late fitness test for the Manchester Derby on Thursday night.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic posted a message on Instagram indicating that he will return one day; disputing reports claiming that he will never play again.
Finally, Juan Mata, previously regarded to be out for the season, could be back “soon.”
The Spaniard wrote on his blog:
As you can imagine, this month has been a bit too long for me due to my injury… I had never been in a situation like this before (I’ve been very lucky), but the truth is I’m feeling much better now and I hope to be back with the team soon, to try to help in the last spell of the season. I hope so, because that’s all I want: being always available to help and to contribute as much as I can, both on and off the pitch. A million thanks for all your messages wishing me a speedy recovery, I’m getting closer! ?
In addition to Juan Mata, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ander Herrera, United could also be without Paul Pogba on Thursday night, who also faces a late fitness test. Marcos Rojo is also out for the season, and it’s highly unlikely that Chris Smalling and Phil Jones could return before the end of the season.
