Manchester United have made themselves a summer transfer window only kind of club, as they acquired zero players in the last two January windows. According to a report by ESPN FC today that could change in 2018. The Bristol based publication claims that United Manager Jose Mourinho is not interested in doing any more summer shopping right now, with a little over two weeks until the window closes.
ESPN writes that Mourinho has decided: “against funding a move for a fourth summer signing by offloading his fringe players.”
Mourinho has bought three players this summer, central defender Victor Lindelof (£31 million from Benfica), striker Romelu Lukaku (£75 million from Everton) and holding midfielder Nemanja Matic (£40 million from Chelsea), but wanted a fourth. The Special One has been the transparent one regarding his intentions this summer, stating his desire to acquire a fourth player on numerous occasions.
That target was Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, who Mourinho already conceded is not going to happen. Thus, Mourinho and United will stand pat with what they have in 2017, and that’s definitely not a bad thing, given how they looked in the Premier League season opener on Sunday.
In a home thrashing of West Ham, United put in the most complete and dominant display that we have seen since the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
