This past weekend Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte brought up Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho in a press conference, and it wasn’t flattering. Mourinho had a disastrous 2015-16 season, his last campaign of his two spells at Chelsea.
Conte said he hopes his team, the reigning Premier League champions, don’t have the kind of season we saw two years ago when Mourinho’s Chelsea went from winning the league by a very large margin in 2014-15 to hovering just above the relegation zone in December when Mourinho was sacked.
Today, in his post match press conference following the friendly victory over Valerenga, Mourinho refused to respond to the dig made by Conte.
“I could answer in many different ways but I am not going to lose my hair to speak about Antonio’s comments,” he answered before shifting topics entirely.
He instead discussed one of his former players at Chelsea and major summer transfer window buy Romelu Lukaku.
“It’s nice [for Lukaku]. Strikers they like to score goals,” Mourinho said.
“It’s not important for me but it’s important for him, for his confidence, his self-esteem.”
“We managers are many times happy with them even when they don’t score because of the way they participate. For them, scoring goals is always important.”
Lukaku scored his third goal in six preseason games for United, who won 3-0.
