The Jose Mourinho vs Antonio Conte feud was one of the ugliest in recent Premier League memory, but at the same time also one of the most entertaining. The two men consistently provided great copy in the very early days of 2018 for those who follow and cover their teams. As the Manchester United and Chelsea managers went back and forth in their war of words, constantly trying to one up each other, we never had a slow news day.
All the while we kept one eye on the two sides’ next upcoming meeting, which finally arrived today, and ended in a 2-1 victory by United at Old Trafford. After the match, Mourinho used the victory as an opportunity to declared the row finally over.
“I think the handshake doesn’t need any words. I think that’s what me and Antonio want to show to everyone and the handshake before and after the match is an example that everything in football, you have to move and respect each other,” Mourinho told his postgame news conference on Sunday.
“Mourinho and Conte are not two ordinary persons in football, we have a history, an image and I’m really happy with that.”
Now, we have peace in our time…for now…you know how these two larger than life personalities are- don’t be too surprised if this feud restarts again before long.
