Every summer, transfer rumor stories naturally circulate within the Twitterverse, blogosphere, cyberspace and media world. For certain transfer rumors, there’s seemingly a new story every single day from every single outlet, about the same player going to the same club.
Essentially, the media bangs you over the head with the same proposed transfer deal every day. Last summer it was Paul Pogba returning to Old Trafford, a deal so big that it earned its own clever hashtag #POGBACK.
The £89.3 million (105m Euros, $115m) deal, a world record breaker in the transfer fee category, is being investigated by FIFA we learned today. BBC reports that FIFA is making an inquiry into United’s signing of Pogba.
The article states that:
Football’s world governing body has written to the Premier League club “to seek clarification on the deal”.
It is believed to concern who was involved in the £89.3m transfer, and how much money was paid to them.
A United spokesman said: “We do not comment on individual contracts. Fifa have had the documents since the transfer was concluded in August.”
What are they looking for? Who knows, this story might only be just be getting started. Or it could end up going nowhere and ultimately end up a non-story. One thing’s for sure- NICE TIMING FIFA!
Juve beat Monaco 2-1 today in the home leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal. They are now officially through to the final, where they will take on the Real Madrid-Atletico Madrid winner (almost certainly it will be Real).
On the United side, they need to stay focused on their UEFA Europa League semi-final against Celta Vigo. The FIFA investigation into the Paul Pogba deal provides distraction.
