Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal sparred with reporters a little bit towards the end of the postgame press conference tonight. You can hear his back and forth with a reporter present in this audio file linked here.
Following Paris St Germain‘s 2-0 win over Manchester United, both managers were asked about the Angel Di Maria transfer saga. Van Gaal was of course coy in his response. He had some fun with it.
“I don’t know where he is,” Van Gaal responded.
“You can ask it every week, but I don’t answer that question. Maybe you know? I don’t know.
“At Manchester United, we will announce something when it is already done and not when it is not done because it is a process and I have said it many, many times. We have to wait and see.”
A reporter who identified himself as being from Kurdistan asked Van Gaal about Di Maria, and the Dutchman responded “he is not going to Kurdistan.”
PSG Manager Laurent Blanc offered slightly more:
“Manchester United and PSG are two big clubs and negotiations can be difficult, but we are close to the end,” Blanc said. You can hear the full audio of his presser at this link here.
When asked a follow up later about why this transfer hasn’t been expedited, Blanc said:
“Manchester United needs to explain the reasoning, not us.”
