Bastian Schweinsteiger has had a ton of new experiences since he left Manchester United for the Chicago Fire. He’s adjusted very well from the English Premier League to American Major League Soccer, and he’s helped guide his new team into MLS contention. The Fire are the hottest team in league, undefeated in their last eight.
However, last night brought another new and this time unpleasant experience for Schweinsteiger, a run-in with the MLS Disciplinary Committee.
The German midfielder was fined due to his violation of league policy regarding hands to the face, head or neck.
The official statement from the league reads as follows:
“The MLS Disciplinary Committee has found Chicago Fire midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger in violation of League policy regarding hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent. Schweinsteiger has been fined an undisclosed amount for his actions in the 70th minute of Chicago’s match against the New England Revolution on June 17.”
In addition, the MLS Disciplinary Committee also fined Vancouver Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted for “instigating and escalating an incident” against FC Dallas and Montreal Impact defender Laurent Ciman for the same exact infraction as Schweinsteiger, in an incident versus Orlando City SC.
The dollar amounts are never disclosed in these situations, but according to some close to the league, it’s in the neighborhood of $500 to $1,000. In other words, it’s an amount that is to Bastian Schweinsteiger what the change we find in the cushions of our couches is to us.
